The theme of Earth Day this April 22nd 2014 is ‘Green Cities’, which means over a billion people around the world will help to highlight the importance of living in a sustainable city with a focus on improving our environment. Over half of the world’s population now live in cities and it’s having an increasingly detrimental impact on our planet.
Most of us are already aware that these problems need to be addressed and that our cities need to start acting greener, but how much do you know about the cities that have already made a start? For instance, do you what city has earned the nickname “Emerald City?” How about where 50% of the city’s residents travel by bicycle? Or where children are rewarded with chocolate and toys for helping to recycle waste?
We’ve compiled green facts from cities all over the world. Let’s hope there are many more facts to write about in the near future!
